We need Supertankers for some industries like aircrafts or nuclear power plants come to mind.

Just like we need speedboats for pretty much every existing and future industries….

Often Supertankers are horizontal or vertical integrated business, chasing those economy of scale benefits, yet many are so bloated with many layers of management that those benefits rarely passed down to consumers but handed up to management / shareholders – processed food or oil companies come to mind.

However, speedboats can’t cross the oceans of a global economy limiting the reach of their activity – the German Mittlestand comes to mind, as a resilient, far reaching 4 mastered ship as a highly needed complement.
